Chapter Six
…. I was speechless at first, a little flustered by the sudden closeness … and then we both started laughing. I laughed between gulps of air until the sides of my cheeks ached. I looked at Johnny who was also laughing and glancing at me. Our gazes met and our laughter stilled.
For a long moment, he just looked at me. My heart slowed to a hard throb inside my chest and I longed for him to close the space between us. He kissed me passionately for a few minutes, and then to my dismay, he pulled away, reminding me teasingly that I had a beer earlier and he didn’t want to take advantage of a poor, drunk girl. Even though he was laughing, I could see he wanted me just as much as I wanted him. The way he gazed into my eyes told me more than his words ever could.
“Johnny,” I started shyly.
“Yea, what is it?”
“I love you.” I whispered bashfully. He gazed into my eyes lovingly and whispered a quiet: “I love you more.”
